‘Fortnite’ Chapter 2 Ends In Two Weeks With No Hints About That Leaked Map

Fortnite got another big patch this week which integrated the Chaos Physics system into the game. You can really only see it in some of the cloth physics on characters, as building and destruction has remained the same. But one thing that did not arrive in the patch? Any indication about events leading up to what is supposedly going to happen to launch Chapter 2, Season 2.

A little while ago, there was a leak of a map and a few stills from cutscenes that seemed to indicate a few different things. First that Steamy Stacks, the nuclear power plant in the north east of the map, was going to melt down and explode. Second, the map seemed to indicate that Misty Meadows or Slurpy Swamp could end up destroyed, possibly by the destruction of the dam down there.

And yet, the patch came and went without any clues as to what could be happening to end the season in just two weeks.

Fortnite’s weekly map changes have been a staple of the game for years now. A meteor drifts closer to earth. A cube rolls around the map. Monster footprints tracks over fields and through houses. All of these build hype to “what’s coming” at the end of the season that then permanently changes the map in some way after a big event.

Enter Chapter 2.

Chapter 2 has done absolutely none of that. Granted it’s a brand new map, but in the last four months, I can only recall a scarce handful of changes, and nothing at all like what I’m talking about here. It had an island taken over by zombies for a Halloween event (that’s how long this season has been going), some TIE Fighters crashed in a few places after the Star Wars event, and it snowed on the map which melted and there were a few new cabins that cropped up, I believe, over the holidays.

But there is nothing going on right now that indicates a potential meltdown of the power plant or destruction of the dam. It’s possible those leaks may have been incorrect, and yet there is nothing indicating anything…else either.

If this was a “normal” Fortnite season, someone would have discovered some diagrams or secret plans in a lab somewhere a few weeks ago for the bad guy group to blow up the plant. And then now we would start hearing periodic alarms sounding at the plant to indicate something bad was coming. And then we would get a day and time to head to X spot to watch the destruction (the previous theory said that this would be a Chaos Physics demonstration. I still won’t fully rule that out).

The long and short of it is that part of the fun of Fortnite has been its weekly map changes that have players guessing at what’s coming. This four month season have brought none of that, and the only reason we’re speculating about anything at all is because of a leak that may or may not even be valid.

I really, really hope we can get back to “normal” Fortnite seasons after this, as I don’t think the community will appreciate another drought like we’ve seen the last four months.
