Chapter 2, Season 1: ‘Fortnite’ Is Getting A Two-Week Event Starting This Week

We’re still here in Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 1, though the end is now in sight. Epic Games formally confirmed the end of the game’s longest season at the end of last month, finally giving us an indication of when we’ll be moving on to another battle pass, another set of standard weekly challenges, and another obtuse storyline to parse in this strange new world. But we’ve got time left yet, with at least one more surprise yet in store.

When Epic announced that it would be extending this season to February 20, it also announced that we’d be getting a new two-week event before the end of the season. Considering the fact that the season ends on February 20 and that this Thursday, February 6, is two weeks before that, I think we can assume that that’s when the event starts. This is Fortnite, so things must be in two week increments whenever possible.

One assumes that Valentine’s Day could have something to do with this: that’s the holiday we’re working with at the moment, and it will definitely be within the timeframe of this event. If this were the case, it’s easy to imagine some heart-shaped decorations, as well as the return of the crossbow and perpetually popular Love Ranger. The crossbow originally made its debut as part of the first Valentine’s Day event, though things were on a smaller scale back then.

Another option would be Birds of Prey, which is already confirmed for a crossover event. A two-week event would be roughly on the same scale as the game’s Batman event, though I’m not sure I’d expect Birds of Prey to be something as big as all that: I sort of figured it would just be skins, but I could be wrong.

It could also be something related to the actual plot of Chapter 2, Season 1: we haven’t had a ton of stuff with that yet, and it would be nice to see some of this E.G.O. stuff manifest in-game.

My gut tells me not to expect a giant-scale event, because I got the feeling that this season was extended past original plans, and that this event is being used as a spacer. I could be wrong, however! It’s possible that this was always on the calendar, or that this was a bigger event for the start of next season now moved to the end of this season. Regardless, we’ll find out soon.
